Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsGEO, or generative engine optimization, puts accurate business information where AI engines look. For GEO services in Allegheny County, the starting point is the market: Allegheny County has 50 places of 2,500 or more residents, each asking its own local questions. GetPhound builds GEO into every Organic Growth plan, with no contracts or setup fees.
Market snapshot
AI Answer Competition Index
79.5/ 100
Ranked 44 among the 1,822 counties that have 20,000 or more people, and 32 within our own 400-market set. Higher scores mean more established competitors per resident. How the score is built
We built this index around eleven categories where someone is likely to ask an assistant who to call (law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical, auto repair). Each county of 20,000 or more residents gets a 0 to 100 score for how many established locations, with five or more employees, share its population. Allegheny County scores 79.5, which is more crowded than most.
Look past the headline number and two features of Allegheny County emerge: it is a county made up of many sizeable towns, and it is a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations. Below, every measure is set against the full list of counties.
A percentile here is the share of the 1,822 ranked counties (20,000 or more residents) that fall below Allegheny County's figure. Inputs: Census population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Where the customers are
These are the biggest places in Allegheny County. Someone asking an assistant about a provider nearby will generally name one of them, which is why plans for answer engine optimization (AEO) in Allegheny County start with the towns on this list.
| City or town | Slice of the county's population | 2023 population estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Pittsburgh | 25% | 303,255 |
| Bethel Park | 3% | 32,398 |
| Monroeville | 2% | 27,974 |
| Plum | 2% | 26,391 |
| Baldwin | 2% | 20,708 |
| West Mifflin | 2% | 18,916 |
Figures are Census Bureau population estimates. Places here are cities, towns and census-designated places, and a city that straddles a county line is shown for its Allegheny County part only.
What shapes AI visibility here
With 50 places above 2,500 residents (12 of them topping 10,000), Allegheny County has more distinct towns than 99% of counties. Local questions generally name a town, so conversational, hyper-local content for each place you serve, backed by RankGuarantee™ landing pages, gives AI engines something specific to draw on for each one.
Two other features of the Allegheny County market matter here. 10.5% of the advice-led locations in Allegheny County have 20 or more employees, more than in 98% of counties. Allegheny County has 17.7 established advice-led businesses per 10,000 residents, more than 93% of counties.
What this means for GEO services for Allegheny County businesses: the unit of work is the town, not the county, so content and pages follow your service area.
Size matters for context: 1,224,825 residents put Allegheny County 36th among 3,143 U.S. counties, and the population has changed -2.1% since the 2020 Census. All industries together have 33,827 employer locations, or 27.6 per 1,000 people.
Outside any named place (a city, town or census-designated place) live 472,805 of Allegheny County's residents (39%), and their questions frequently skip the town name entirely and ask for something "near me" instead.
Your competition
Read each row across: Allegheny County's established locations in a category, the crowding bar against the median county (the dark tick is 1.0x), the change in all locations since 2017, and the count of large employers.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change covers each employer location in the category, of any size. Counts come from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022) and are no measure of AI mentions or search volume. How we calculate this
Law offices are the most contested category in Allegheny County: 268 established locations, 3.0 times the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole down 7.6% since 2017. A person asking an assistant which law firm to call has the most names to sort through here. Denser than usual as well: physicians offices (647 established locations, 2.5x) and residential remodelers (134 established locations, 2.0x). Room exists in auto repair shops, where 100 established locations come to just 1.0x a typical county.
The fastest growth is in real estate agents and brokers: locations of each size rose 21.4% since 2017, to 301, so new names keep appearing. Physicians offices shrank instead, losing 12.5% of their locations to land at 1,094. Larger firms cluster in physicians offices: 236 locations have 20 or more employees.
These figures describe the competition, not AI behavior. No public data tells us how often people ask an assistant for a recommendation or how an engine picks among businesses, and we do not guess; the table shows how many established rivals share the answer space.
Housing demand
Bars show new housing units approved by building permits. From the Building Permits Survey (Census Bureau): annual county data plus matching January-to-August totals. Permits mark intent to build, not finished construction.
Permits peaked at 3,953 units in 2023 and came in at 3,297 in 2025, roughly 17% lower. Even so, 2025 equals 26.9 units for every 10,000 residents, which is below 51% of counties. Year to date (January through August), approvals stand at 1,698, compared with 2,466 a year ago, a change of -31.1%.
Among businesses tied to building, residential remodelers (2.0x typical) and roofing contractors (1.7x typical) are the most crowded in Allegheny County. New households arrive without providers they trust, and a business whose details already match across the places AI engines read is easier for them to find described.

Closest of the six is Hamilton County, OH, at 76.5 on the index against 79.5 for Allegheny County. Franklin County, OH is the most different of the six, at 69.7. One visible difference is firm size, with 8.8% of advice-led locations in Oakland County, MI at 20 or more employees against 10.5% in Allegheny County. These are neighbors in competition only; they say nothing about what to expect from AI engines.
The parts of GEO
Markup engines can read
We add schema markup to your key pages, including LocalBusiness, FAQ and Review schema, so an engine can read your business details as structured facts.
NAP across every listing
Conflicting listings are found and fixed, so your details read the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and beyond.
Hyper-local and conversational
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people put to assistants about your services, focused on Allegheny County and the towns around it.
Steady, current reviews
Engines look at how many reviews you have and how customers feel about you; we help you collect and respond to them consistently.
The groundwork
The groundwork is technical SEO: pages that load, can be crawled and carry the structure the rest of GEO adds to.
AI visibility reporting
Each month we test your visibility across Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT, and reporting covers AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
None of this stands alone: it is part of Organic Growth, with local SEO and Google Maps work beside it and a managed website on Gold and Platinum. Want leads sooner? We also manage Bing, Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads.
The process
We compare your business name, address and phone number and your site information across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines pull from, so everything matches.
We put schema markup on the pages that matter most: LocalBusiness schema, FAQ schema and Review schema, so AI engines can read your details as structured facts.
We publish plain-language, hyper-local content that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services in your service area.
Each month we check your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then adapt the work to what we find. You see citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
Plans
There is no separate price for GEO, since each of the three Organic Growth plans below includes it. None of the plans has a setup fee or a contract. Walk through the plans with our CEO.
Run your own figures
Whether GEO pays off for you depends on your own figures, not a market average. Enter what a customer is worth and the plan you are weighing to see how many new customers a month cover it.
FAQ
GEO is not sold on its own: every Organic Growth plan includes it. Silver is $1,495 a month, Gold is $2,495 and Platinum is $3,495, and Gold and Platinum add a fully managed, custom-built website. You pay no setup fee and sign no contract.
The names overlap: generative engine optimization, answer engine optimization and AI search optimization all describe getting your business ready for engines that give direct answers, such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. The engines rely on structured data, listings and trusted content, which is why GEO works with SEO and not against it.
We cannot, and neither can anyone else. Our part is the groundwork that gives an engine more to go on: matching details on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other listings, schema markup and local content. Because engines build trust in information gradually, any promised date would be a guess. Each month we test visibility across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews and report what we see.
Reviews are one of the signals. Review volume and sentiment are read by AI engines, so we treat reputation as part of the work, along with LocalBusiness, Review and FAQ schema markup. We cannot promise a mention; a healthy, current review profile simply gives engines more information.
It means your name, address, phone number and details like hours and services are identical on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and every other source an engine might read. Our process starts with an audit of precisely that, as mismatched details make it harder for an engine to describe you correctly.
People describe GEO as the next evolution of SEO, and in our plans the two arrive together: technical SEO, local landing pages, reviews and the AI-focused work. See the Organic Growth page for the full list.
Of the eleven recommendation categories, the biggest in Allegheny County by established locations are physicians offices (647), dentists (331) and law offices (268). Compared with a typical county, the busiest are law offices (3.0x) and physicians offices (2.5x).
They are different things. GEO is unpaid work: helping engines find accurate information about your business. ChatGPT advertising is a separate, paid test: sponsored, labeled ads shown to some users on the Free and lower-priced plans, bought through a self-serve Ads Manager and targeted by country and context, not by keyword. Measurement is still maturing, and ads do not change the answers.
By our count, Allegheny County is more crowded than most counties: it scores 79.5, which is 44th out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 32nd of our 400 markets. The busiest category is law offices, at 3.0x a typical county. The score describes the number of established competitors; what engines do with them is beyond what public data can show.
