Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsWake County has 12 places of 2,500 or more residents, each asking its own local questions, and that shapes how GEO should be done here. GetPhound's generative engine optimization prepares a business for AI search: consistent details across the listings engines read, structured data on key pages and local content that answers real questions, all inside our Organic Growth plans. The data below shows the Wake County market.
The market in numbers
AI Answer Competition Index
78.2/ 100
Placed 60 among the 1,822 counties above 20,000 residents, and 43 within our own 400-market set. Higher scores mean more established competitors per resident. See how it is calculated
The AI Answer Competition Index covers eleven kinds of business that people ask an assistant to recommend: law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical and auto repair. For each county of 20,000 or more residents it counts established locations, those with five or more employees, per 10,000 people. Wake County scores 78.2, which is more crowded than most.
Look past the headline number and two features of Wake County emerge: it is a county made up of many sizeable towns, and it is a county where new housing is going up quickly for its size. Below, each measure is set against the full list of counties.
A percentile here is the share of the 1,822 ranked counties (20,000 or more residents) that fall below Wake County's figure. Drawn from: Census population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
The AI answer picture
With 12 places above 2,500 residents (11 of them topping 10,000), Wake County has more distinct towns than 94% of counties. Local questions usually name a town, so conversational, hyper-local content for each place you serve, backed by RankGuarantee™ landing pages, gives AI engines something specific to draw on for each one.
Two more details round out the picture. Wake County authorized 115.5 new homes per 10,000 residents in 2025, more than 96% of counties. 8.6% of the advice-led locations in Wake County have 20 or more employees, more than in 95% of counties.
What this means for GEO in Wake County: think town by town: each place deserves its own local content and consistent details.
Size matters for context: 1,190,275 residents put Wake County 38th among 3,143 U.S. counties, and the population has changed +5.4% since the 2020 Census. All industries together have 33,076 employer locations, or 27.8 per 1,000 people.
Outside any named place (a city, town or census-designated place) live 195,797 of Wake County's residents (16%), and their questions frequently skip the town name entirely and ask for something "near me" instead.
Population by place
The largest places in Wake County by resident count. For answer engine optimization (AEO) in Wake County, the work is place by place: each service you offer can have content for each town you serve.
| City or town | Percent of all county residents | People (2023 estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Raleigh (part) | 40% | 480,692 |
| Cary (part) | 15% | 176,063 |
| Apex (part) | 6% | 72,218 |
| Wake Forest (part) | 4% | 51,794 |
| Holly Springs | 4% | 46,271 |
| Fuquay-Varina (part) | 4% | 43,817 |
Population figures come from Census Bureau estimates. Places here are cities, towns and census-designated places, and a city that straddles a county line is shown for its Wake County part only.
Who shares the answer
Read each row across: Wake County's established locations in a category, the crowding bar against the median county (the dark tick is 1.0x), the change in all locations since 2017, and the count of large employers.
Each bar shows a category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county we rank; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. See the method
Real estate agents and brokers are the most contested category in Wake County: 98 established locations, 4.0 times the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole up 45.3% since 2017. A person asking an assistant which agent to list with has the most names to sort through here. Denser than usual as well: law offices (256 established locations, 3.0x) and roofing contractors (31 established locations, 1.7x).
The fastest growth is in roofing contractors: locations of each size rose 61.5% since 2017, to 105, so new names keep appearing. Physicians offices contracted by 13.7% since 2017, to 566 locations. The biggest employers sit in physicians offices, where 125 locations have 20 or more employees.
A word of caution: this table counts businesses. It does not measure how often an assistant is asked about any category, which businesses it names, or how many people use one. A crowded category calls for careful preparation and a quiet one for early action, but neither is a forecast.
Demand signal
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. From the Building Permits Survey (Census Bureau): annual county data plus matching January-to-August totals. Permits mark intent to build, not finished construction.
Permits peaked at 18,471 units in 2022 and came in at 13,743 in 2025, roughly 26% lower. Even so, 2025 equals 115.5 units for every 10,000 residents, which is above 96% of counties. Through the first eight months of 2026, 11,134 units were approved against 10,357 in the same months of 2025 (+7.5%).
Among businesses tied to building, real estate agents and brokers (4.0x typical) and roofing contractors (1.7x typical) are the most crowded in Wake County. New households arrive without providers they trust, and a business whose details already match across the places AI engines read is easier for them to find described.

Closest of the six is Travis County, TX, at 77.5 on the index against 78.2 for Wake County. Pierce County, WA is the most different of the six, at 69.0. Pierce County, WA has 6.7% of its advice-led locations at 20 or more employees against 8.6% in Wake County. Treat the match as a read on the competition, not a promise about results.
Do the math
GEO is part of the monthly Organic Growth plans, so the useful question is how many new customers a plan has to bring in to cover its cost. Customers from AI answers, search and Google Maps all count, and nobody can promise any of them.
The parts of GEO
Schema on your key pages
We add schema markup to your key pages, including LocalBusiness, FAQ and Review schema, so an engine can read your business details as structured facts.
Name, address and phone
We make your name, address and phone details agree on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and each other listing engines read.
Written for the questions people ask
Content is written in a conversational tone, aimed at the local questions customers actually ask, focused on Wake County and its neighboring areas.
Steady, current reviews
Review volume and sentiment both get read by AI engines, so reputation work is part of the plan.
SEO underneath
Technical SEO keeps your site readable by search engines and AI tools, and it is the foundation the rest of the work stands on.
AI visibility reporting
Monthly tests across Perplexity, AI Overviews and ChatGPT feed a report covering citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
None of this stands alone: it is part of Organic Growth, with local SEO and Google Maps work beside it and a managed website on Gold and Platinum. Want leads sooner? We also manage Bing, Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads.
Step by step
We check your NAP details and your site information across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines look, so they all agree.
We put schema markup on your most important pages: LocalBusiness schema, FAQ schema and Review schema, so your business is described in a format machines read well.
We produce local content in a conversational tone that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services and the places you serve.
Every month we measure your visibility across Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT, then adapt the work to what we find. The report covers citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
Pricing
There is no separate price for GEO, since each of the three Organic Growth plans below includes it. There is no setup fee and no contract on any plan. Ask our CEO which plan fits.
FAQ
GEO is not sold on its own: every Organic Growth plan includes it. The plans are $1,495 (Silver), $2,495 (Gold) and $3,495 (Platinum) a month, and Gold and Platinum add a fully managed, custom-built website. No setup fee, no contract.
Multi-location businesses benefit most. To recommend a service locally, AI tools need consistent, verified data, which makes matching names, addresses, phone numbers and hours on Yelp, Google and Apple Maps important at each location. Larger firms, with 20 or more employees, hold 8.6% of the advice-led locations in Wake County.
That is not something anyone can guarantee. Our part is the groundwork that gives an engine more to go on: consistent details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and other listings, schema markup and local content. Because engines build trust in information gradually, any promised date would be a guess. Each month we check Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews and send you the results.
We do not promise a timeframe, since engines decide how quickly they trust new or corrected information. The work follows a set order: audit, schema, content, after which we test Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity each month and adjust. Crowding in real estate agents and brokers across Wake County is a reason for care, not a forecast.
SEO helps pages rank in a list of results, while GEO prepares your information for engines that answer in a sentence or two. That covers Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT, and some people call it AEO. The two share groundwork, so Organic Growth includes both.
No, they are separate. Advertisers can buy labeled, sponsored ads in ChatGPT through a self-serve Ads Manager, and some Free and lower-priced plan users see them. The ads do not affect the answers, and measuring them is still maturing. GEO is the unpaid work behind accurate answers about your business.
According to the index, Wake County is more crowded than most counties: it scores 78.2, which is 60th out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 43rd of our 400 markets. The busiest category is real estate agents and brokers, at 4.0x a typical county. The score describes the number of established competitors; what engines do with them is beyond what public data can show.
You can cancel anytime; there is no contract or setup fee. Pricing is flat and month to month, and we accept one business per category in each city.
You do not have to. It begins with the audit, moves to schema on key pages and then to local content. A rebuild is optional: if you want one, Gold and Platinum include a custom-built, fully managed website.
