Market at a glance
AI Answer Competition Index
68.4/ 100
Ranked 265 among the 1,822 counties that have 20,000 or more people, and 172 within our own 400-market set. A higher score means more established businesses are sharing the same pool of AI answers. How we work it out
Think of the index as a headcount of established competition, those with five or more employees, in eleven recommendation categories, for each 10,000 residents and compared across every county of 20,000 or more people. The categories are law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical and auto repair. Livingston County scores 68.4, which is more crowded than most.
The score is only part of the picture. Livingston County is an affluent county, and it is also a county with many residents outside any named place. Each measure below places it among all counties.
Percentiles compare Livingston County with all 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents: a percentile is the share of those counties with a lower value. Drawn from: Census population estimates, the 2017 and 2022 County Business Patterns, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
What shapes AI visibility here
Higher incomes ($103,737 median household income, above 95% of counties) change how people choose in Livingston County: they weigh reviews, credentials and detail, not just price. AI engines scan review volume and sentiment too, which is why reviews and structured data sit at the center of our GEO work.
Two more details round out the picture. 173,507 residents of Livingston County live outside any named place. Livingston County has 14.1 established advice-led businesses per 10,000 residents, more than 76% of counties.
For anyone weighing GEO in Livingston County, affluent buyers do their research, so complete profiles and substantial local content earn their keep.
Home to 196,757 people, Livingston County is the 354th largest of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its headcount has moved +1.5% since the 2020 Census. Employers operate 4,439 locations here across all industries, roughly 22.6 for every 1,000 residents.
No single place dominates Livingston County: the largest, Howell, has about 5% of residents, and others include Brighton (7,958), Fowlerville (2,931), Pinckney (2,353) and Fenton (0). An assistant asked about a service in one of them draws on local detail for that town, not for the whole county.
88% of the county, about 173,507 people, lives outside any named place, where "near me" and county-wide questions count for as much as a city name.
The field an answer chooses from
Read each row across: Livingston County's established locations in a category, the crowding bar against the median county (the dark tick is 1.0x), the change in all locations since 2017, and the count of large employers.
Each bar shows a category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county we rank; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change covers every employer location in the category, of any size. Counts come from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022) and are no measure of AI mentions or search volume. See the method
Residential remodelers lead the field for crowding in Livingston County: 27 established locations, 2.5x a typical county, with the category as a whole up 16.7% since 2017. Electrical contractors (29 established locations, 1.5x) and dentists (62 established locations, 1.5x) follow, also denser than a typical county. Physicians offices are the least crowded category here at 0.9x typical (40 established locations), which leaves more room for a well-documented business to be noticed.
Real estate agents and brokers added the most new competition, 20.3% more locations of all sizes than in 2017 (71 now). Electrical contractors contracted by 7.5% since 2017, to 62 locations. Larger firms cluster in dentists: 7 locations have 20 or more employees.
Remember what a count can and cannot say. It tells you how many established businesses are in each category. It says nothing about AI mentions, search volume or timing, and nobody can promise a mention in an AI answer.
Demand signal
Bars show new housing units approved by building permits. From the Building Permits Survey (Census Bureau): annual county data plus matching January-to-August totals. An approval is not a completed home.
From a high of 1,145 units in 2022, approvals in Livingston County dropped to 531 in 2025, about 54% less, and the 2025 rate of 27 per 10,000 residents is below 51% of counties. Through the first eight months of 2026, 403 units were approved against 325 in the same months of 2025 (+24%).
The construction-linked categories with the most established competitors in Livingston County are residential remodelers (2.5x typical) and electrical contractors (1.5x typical). New households arrive without providers they trust, and a business whose details already match across the places AI engines read is easier for them to find described.

How it works
We compare your name, address and phone details and your site details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other listings AI engines read, so each source tells the same story.
We add schema markup on your key pages: LocalBusiness, FAQ and Review markup, so AI engines can read your details as structured facts.
We create plain-language, hyper-local content that answers the questions people ask about your services and the places you serve.
Every month we measure your visibility across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, then change course based on what moves. Reporting includes AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
What GEO includes
Markup engines can read
Schema markup goes onto your most important pages: LocalBusiness, Review and FAQ, so an engine can read your business details as structured facts.
Name, address and phone
We make your address, name and phone details agree on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and every other listing engines read.
Hyper-local and conversational
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people put to assistants about your services, focused on Livingston County and its neighboring areas.
Steady, current reviews
Review volume and sentiment both get read by AI engines, so reputation work is part of the plan.
SEO underneath
The groundwork is technical SEO: pages that load, can be crawled and carry the structure the rest of GEO adds to.
ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews
Each month we test your visibility across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, and reporting covers knowledge panels, citations, AI visibility, platform traffic and local rankings.
GEO is delivered alongside SEO, Google Maps work and the website that comes with Gold and Platinum. Want leads sooner? We also manage Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Bing ads.
Check the math
The plans are flat monthly fees, which makes the payback arithmetic simple: what one new customer is worth to you, your margin and your close rate give the customers a month a plan has to deliver.
Monthly plans
GEO comes inside the Organic Growth plans, not as a separate purchase. There is no setup fee and no contract on any plan. Talk it through with our CEO.
Common questions
GEO is included in Organic Growth rather than priced on its own. It is part of Silver ($1,495 a month), Gold ($2,495) and Platinum ($3,495). Gold and Platinum also bring a custom-built website we host and maintain. Everything is month to month.
It would be dishonest to promise an AI mention, so we do not. The goal is accurate, consistent facts that match across every source an engine reads. Results improve over time as engines favor consistent information, and we give no schedule. You see monthly test results from Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT.
No. GEO works on the unpaid side: making accurate information about your business easy for engines to use. ChatGPT advertising is a separate, paid test: labeled, sponsored ads that some users on the Free and lower-priced plans see, set up in a self-serve Ads Manager and aimed by country and context rather than keyword. Measurement is still maturing, and ads do not change the answers.
Reviews feed into it. Engines read review volume and sentiment, which is why reviews and reputation are part of what we do, together with FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema. We cannot promise a mention; a healthy, current review profile simply gives engines more information.
A timeframe would be a guess, because engines decide how quickly they trust new or corrected information. The work follows a set order: audit, schema, content, and then we test visibility across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity every month and adjust. A busy category like residential remodelers in Livingston County is a reason to be thorough, not a prediction of speed.
You get schema markup (LocalBusiness, Review and FAQ), matching listings across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and others, conversational content written for local questions, reviews and reputation work, technical SEO, and monitoring across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT. Each report includes knowledge panels, citations, AI visibility, platform traffic and local rankings.
More than most. Livingston County comes in at 68.4 on our AI Answer Competition Index, ranking 265th among the 1,822 counties we rank, and 172nd within our 400-market set. Residential remodelers lead the field for crowding, at 2.5 times the typical county. The index counts businesses and says nothing about AI behavior.
Generative engine optimization (GEO) means optimizing your online presence for AI engines like Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Some people call it AEO, answer engine optimization. They answer directly rather than listing links, drawing on structured data, business listings and trusted content. GEO is the next step beyond SEO and complements it; it does not replace it.
Not required. It begins with the audit, moves to schema on key pages and then to local content. A rebuild is optional: the Gold and Platinum plans include a fully managed, custom-built site.
