Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsWhen someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or a Google AI Overview for a name, the answer comes from information the engine can find and trust. Larger firms are common in Lucas County, with 10.9% of advice-led locations at 20 or more employees, which sets the terms for AI search optimization in Lucas County. Below is the market data, then what GEO covers and what it costs.
The market in numbers
AI Answer Competition Index
70.7/ 100
Placed 207 among the 1,822 counties of at least 20,000 people, and 132 within our own 400-market set. A higher score means more established businesses are sharing the same pool of AI answers. See how it is calculated
We built this index around eleven categories where someone is likely to ask an assistant who to call (law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical, auto repair). Each county of 20,000 or more residents gets a 0 to 100 score for how many established locations, with five or more employees, share its population. Lucas County scores 70.7, which is more crowded than most.
Look past the headline number and two features of Lucas County emerge: it is a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations, and it is a county where most advice-led businesses are established ones with five or more employees. Each measure below places it among all counties.
Each percentile places Lucas County among the 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents, as the share of them with a lower value. Built from: Census population estimates, the 2017 and 2022 County Business Patterns, income estimates from the Census Bureau and the Building Permits Survey.
Reading the market
Larger firms are unusually common in Lucas County: 10.9% of the 1,361 locations in our eleven categories (149 in all) have 20 or more employees, a higher share than in 99% of counties. Bigger operations often run several locations, and AI tools need consistent, verified data to recommend a multi-location business locally, so accuracy at every address counts.
The headline is not the only thing worth reading. 45.9% of the advice-led locations in Lucas County have five or more employees, a higher share than in 91% of counties. Lucas County authorized just 6.4 new homes per 10,000 residents in 2025, fewer than 89% of counties.
What this means for GEO in Lucas County: larger firms can mean several locations, and consistent facts at every address are what let an independent keep up.
Home to 425,484 people, Lucas County is the 171st largest of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its headcount has moved -1.3% since the 2020 Census. Employers operate 9,413 locations here across all industries, roughly 22.1 for every 1,000 residents.
Toledo holds about 62% of Lucas County's residents, so it matters most, but the rest of the county (Oregon, Sylvania and Maumee) asks about its own town names, and each one is a separate local answer.
Outside any named place (a city, town or census-designated place) live 89,586 of Lucas County's residents (21%), and their questions often skip the town name entirely and ask for something "near me" instead.
The field an answer chooses from
Every row is one of the eleven recommendation categories: established locations (five or more employees) in Lucas County, how that compares with the typical county, how the category as a whole has changed since 2017, and how many locations are large employers.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. See the method
Physicians offices are the most contested category in Lucas County: 209 established locations, 2.3 times the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole down 18.3% since 2017. A person asking an assistant which doctor to book has the most names to sort through here. Denser than usual as well: law offices (56 established locations, 1.8x) and real estate agents and brokers (16 established locations, 1.8x). Room exists in electrical contractors, where 33 established locations come to just 0.8x a typical county.
The fastest growth is in real estate agents and brokers: locations of each size rose 46.2% since 2017, to 95, so new names keep appearing. The one category moving backward is physicians offices, down 18.3% to 312 locations. Larger firms cluster in physicians offices: 71 locations have 20 or more employees.
A word of caution: this table counts businesses. It does not measure how often an assistant is asked about any category, which businesses it names, or how many people use one. A crowded category calls for careful preparation and a quiet one for early action, but neither is a forecast.
Where demand is heading
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. Data: Building Permits Survey, county annual files, and a like-for-like year-to-date comparison. Approved units may not be built yet.
From a high of 671 units in 2022, approvals in Lucas County dropped to 272 in 2025, about 59% less, and the 2025 rate of 6.4 per 10,000 residents is below 89% of counties. The 2026 year-to-date count is 218 units to 207 last year, +5.3%.
Among businesses tied to building, roofing contractors (2.0x typical) and real estate agents and brokers (1.8x typical) are the most crowded in Lucas County. Rising permits bring people who need a roofer or an electrician and have no one to ask, and falling permits shift questions toward repair and replacement. Either way, accurate local information is what GEO works on.

| St. Joseph County, IN | 67.7 | 272,848 | 0% | -1.8% | 10.5% |
These six markets, out of 400, match this one most closely on size, income, score, firm size, growth and established share. Data sources are the same as above.
Montgomery County, OH is the nearest match, scoring 69.9 against Lucas County's 70.7. At the other extreme sits St. Joseph County, IN, scoring 67.7. The mix of firm sizes differs too: 8.5% of Hampden County, MA's advice-led locations have 20 or more employees, against 10.9% here. A similar score means a comparable number of established competitors, not a comparable result.
Communities
The largest places in Lucas County by resident count. For answer engine optimization (AEO) in Lucas County, the work is place by place: each service you offer can have content for each town you serve.
| Place | Slice of the county's population | Residents in 2023 (estimate) |

Our process
We go through your NAP details and your site details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines pull from, so they all agree.
We implement schema markup on the pages that matter most: Review, LocalBusiness and FAQ schema, so your business is described in a format machines read well.
We write local content in a conversational tone that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services and the places you serve.
Each month we run tests of your visibility across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, then change course based on what moves. The report covers citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.

GEO sits next to our other work: local SEO, Google Maps optimization and, on the Gold and Platinum plans, a fully managed website. Paid campaigns on Google, Bing and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) are available separately for faster leads.
Run your own figures
Whether GEO pays off for you depends on your own figures, not a market average. Enter what a customer is worth and the plan you are weighing to see how many new customers a month cover it.
Monthly plans
GEO comes inside the Organic Growth plans, not as a separate purchase. You can start with no setup fee and leave whenever you like. Book a call with our CEO to compare plans.
Questions
You cannot buy GEO by itself: every Organic Growth plan includes it. Silver costs $1,495 a month, Gold $2,495 and Platinum $3,495, and the two higher plans include a fully managed, custom-built website. No setup fee, no contract.
Your name, address and phone number, plus details such as hours and services, should be the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and anywhere else an engine looks. That is what the audit at the start of our process checks, because conflicting details make it harder for an engine to describe you correctly.
GEO is described as the next evolution of SEO, so in our plans they are delivered together: the AI-focused work alongside technical SEO, landing pages and reviews. Details are on the Organic Growth page.
Across the eleven recommendation categories, the largest by established locations in Lucas County are physicians offices (209), dentists (102) and law offices (56). Measured against a typical county, the most crowded are physicians offices (2.3x) and law offices (1.8x).
No. We do not promise a mention, and no one honestly can. No one controls what an AI engine says. Our work is to make what engines can find about you accurate, consistent and well structured, and over time engines gather, validate and favor consistent information. There is no timeframe to quote; we check Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity every month and report what we see.
No. GEO works on the unpaid side: helping engines find accurate information about your business. ChatGPT ads are a separate paid test: sponsored, labeled ads shown to some users on the Free and lower-priced plans, bought through a self-serve Ads Manager and targeted by country and context, not by keyword. The ads do not alter the answers, and measurement is still maturing.
GEO stands for generative engine optimization: preparing your online presence for AI engines such as Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Others use the term AEO, or answer engine optimization. These engines answer a question directly, pulling from structured data, business listings and trusted content. It is described as the next evolution of SEO and complements it rather than replacing it.
No contract and no setup fee: plans are flat-rate and month to month. We take one business per category per city, so a direct competitor of yours in Lucas County will not be a client alongside you.
According to the index, Lucas County is more crowded than most counties: it scores 70.7, which is 207th out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 132nd of our 400 markets. The busiest category is physicians offices, at 2.3x a typical county. A score is a headcount of established competitors, not a forecast of what any engine will do.
