AI Answer Competition Index
63.0/ 100
Currently ranked 420 among the 1,822 counties above 20,000 residents, and 258 within our own 400-market set. More established businesses per resident push the score up. How we work it out
We built this index around eleven categories where someone is likely to ask an assistant who to call (law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical, auto repair). Each county of 20,000 or more residents gets a 0 to 100 score for how many established locations, with five or more employees, share its population. Bexar County scores 63.0, which is close to the middle of the pack.
Bexar County has two traits worth noting: it is a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations, and it is a county made up of many sizeable towns. Below, every measure is set against the full list of counties.
Percentiles compare Bexar County with all 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents: a percentile is the share of those counties with a lower value. Inputs: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, income estimates from the Census Bureau and the Building Permits Survey.
The AI answer picture
Established chains and larger practices set the pace in Bexar County: 7.9% of advice-led locations have 20 or more employees, ahead of 93% of counties. For a smaller independent, GEO is a way to make sure an assistant has accurate, structured facts about you alongside those bigger names.
The headline is not the only thing worth reading. Bexar County has 18 communities above 2,500 residents, 5 of them above 10,000, more than 97% of counties.
For anyone weighing GEO in Bexar County, larger firms can mean several locations, and consistent facts at every address are what let an independent keep up.
Home to 2,087,679 people, Bexar County is the 16th largest of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its headcount has moved +3.9% since the 2020 Census. Employers operate 39,091 locations here across all industries, roughly 18.7 for every 1,000 residents.
San Antonio (1,495,285), Converse (30,321), Universal City (20,028), Live Oak (15,988) and Leon Valley (11,337) lead the list of places in Bexar County. Each is a separate local context, which is why GEO for a multi-town business is built place by place, with pages and data for each area it serves.
Outside any named place (a city, town or census-designated place) live 426,199 of Bexar County's residents (20%), and their questions often skip the town name entirely and ask for something "near me" instead.
Who else could be named
The eleven rows are the recommendation categories. Each shows established locations in Bexar County and sets them against the median county, so 2.0x would mean twice the typical number per resident.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Counts come from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022) and are no measure of AI mentions or search volume. See the method
Law offices lead the field for crowding in Bexar County: 312 established locations, 2.1x a typical county, with the category as a whole up 0.7% since 2017. Real estate agents and brokers (82 established locations, 1.9x) and physicians offices (754 established locations, 1.7x) follow, also denser than a typical county. Residential remodelers are the least crowded category here at 0.5x typical (59 established locations), which leaves more room for a well-documented business to be noticed.
Real estate agents and brokers added the most new competition, 55.6% more locations of all sizes than in 2017 (803 now). The one category moving backward is accounting and CPA firms, down 6.7% to 235 locations. Physicians offices account for the most large employers, with 200 locations at 20 or more employees.
Remember what a count can and cannot say. It tells you how many established businesses are in each category. It says nothing about AI mentions, search volume or timing, and nobody can promise a mention in an AI answer.
Housing demand
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. From the Building Permits Survey (Census Bureau): annual county data plus matching January-to-August totals. Approved units may not be built yet.
From a high of 17,389 units in 2022, approvals in Bexar County dropped to 5,737 in 2025, about 67% less, and the 2025 rate of 27.5 per 10,000 residents is below 50% of counties. The 2026 year-to-date count is 4,070 units to 4,507 last year, -9.7%.
The construction-linked categories with the most established competitors in Bexar County are real estate agents and brokers (1.9x typical) and roofing contractors (1.0x typical). New households arrive without providers they trust, and a business whose details already match across the places AI engines read is easier for them to find described.

Bexar County (63.0) looks most like Tarrant County, TX, which scores 69.8. At the other extreme sits Dallas County, TX, scoring 74.9. One visible difference is firm size, with 6.9% of advice-led locations in Clark County, NV at 20 or more employees against 7.9% in Bexar County. These are neighbors in competition only; they say nothing about what to expect from AI engines.
Population by place
Population by place, from the Census Bureau's latest estimates. Local questions usually name a town, so each of these is a separate context, and work on answer engine optimization (AEO) in Bexar County can be written for any of them.

What happens, in order
We compare your business address, name and phone number and your site information across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other sources AI engines pull from, so each source tells the same story.
We put schema markup on the pages that matter most: LocalBusiness, FAQ and Review markup, so AI engines can read your details as structured facts.
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services and the places you serve.
Each month we test your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then change course based on what moves. The report covers citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
What GEO includes
Markup engines can read
We add schema markup to your key pages, including FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema, so an engine can read your business details as structured facts.
Name, address and phone
We make your name, phone and address details agree on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and each other listing engines read.
Answers, not keywords
Content is written in a conversational tone, aimed at the local questions customers actually ask, focused on Bexar County and the towns around it.
Volume and sentiment
Review volume and sentiment both get read by AI engines, so reputation work is part of the plan.
SEO underneath
Technical SEO keeps your site readable by search engines and AI tools, and it is the foundation the rest of the work stands on.
Tested every month
Visibility is tested monthly in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with reports on AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
GEO sits next to our other work: local SEO, Google Maps optimization and, on the Gold and Platinum plans, a fully managed website. If you need customers while this builds, our paid ads team manages Bing, Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) campaigns.
Check the math
Whether GEO pays off for you depends on your own figures, not a market average. Enter what a customer is worth and the plan you are weighing to see how many new customers a month cover it.
Monthly plans
GEO is not sold on its own: it is included in every Organic Growth plan below. None of the plans has a setup fee or a contract. Walk through the plans with our CEO.
Questions
The short version: GEO is bundled into Organic Growth, not sold alone. Silver is $1,495 a month, Gold is $2,495 and Platinum is $3,495. A website, custom built and fully managed, comes with Gold and Platinum. None of the plans has a setup fee or a contract.
These names mostly mean the same thing: generative engine optimization, answer engine optimization and AI search optimization all describe getting your business ready for engines that give direct answers, such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. The engines rely on structured data, listings and trusted content, which is why GEO works with SEO and not against it.
There is no contract and no setup fee, and each plan is flat-rate and month to month. Only one business per category per city is accepted, which keeps us from working for your direct competitor in Bexar County.
Your name, address and phone number, plus details such as hours and services, should be the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and anywhere else an engine looks. That is what the audit at the start of our process checks, as mismatched details make it harder for an engine to describe you correctly.
GEO is often framed as SEO's next step, which is why we deliver the two together: local landing pages, technical SEO, review work and the AI-focused pieces. The Organic Growth page has the details.
The three biggest of the eleven categories in Bexar County, by established locations, are physicians offices (754), dentists (487) and law offices (312). Compared with a typical county, the busiest are law offices (2.1x) and real estate agents and brokers (1.9x).
By our count, Bexar County sits close to the middle of the pack: it scores 63.0, which is 420th out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 258th of our 400 markets. The busiest category is law offices, at 2.1x a typical county. A score is a headcount of established competitors, not a forecast of what any engine will do.
No. GEO works on the unpaid side: making accurate information about your business easy for engines to use. ChatGPT advertising is a separate, paid test: sponsored, labeled ads shown to some users on the Free and lower-priced plans, bought through a self-serve Ads Manager and targeted by country and context, not by keyword. The ads do not alter the answers, and measurement is still maturing.
Nobody can, including us. What we can do is the groundwork engines rely on: consistent details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and other listings, schema markup and local content. Because engines build trust in information gradually, any promised date would be a guess. Each month we test visibility across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT and report what we see.
