Market at a glance
AI Answer Competition Index
68.1/ 100
Placed 281 among the 1,822 counties above 20,000 residents, and 185 within our own 400-market set. More established businesses per resident push the score up. How the score is built
Think of the index as a headcount of established competition, those with five or more employees, in eleven recommendation categories, for each 10,000 residents and compared across every county of 20,000 or more people. The categories are law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical and auto repair. Lehigh County scores 68.1, which is more crowded than most.
Look past the headline number and two features of Lehigh County emerge: it is a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations, and it is a county made up of many sizeable towns. The measures below show where it stands against every other county.
Each percentile places Lehigh County among the 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents, as the share of them with a lower value. Inputs: Census population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, income estimates from the Census Bureau and the Building Permits Survey.
Local profile
Larger firms are unusually common in Lehigh County: 10.3% of the 1,215 locations in our eleven categories (125 in all) have 20 or more employees, a higher share than in 98% of counties. Bigger operations often run several locations, and AI tools need consistent, verified data to recommend a multi-location business locally, so accuracy at every address counts.
The headline is not the only thing worth reading. Lehigh County has 9 communities above 2,500 residents, 3 of them above 10,000, more than 92% of counties. Advice-led locations in Lehigh County changed -10.1% from 2017 to 2022, slower than in 91% of counties.
What this means for GEO in Lehigh County: larger competitors make data hygiene non-negotiable: one name, one address, one phone number, everywhere engines look.
Home to 377,754 people, Lehigh County is the 198th largest of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its headcount has moved +0.8% since the 2020 Census. Employers operate 8,627 locations here across all industries, roughly 22.8 for every 1,000 residents.
No single place dominates Lehigh County: the largest, Allentown, has about 33% of residents, and others include Bethlehem (19,951), Emmaus (12,017), Catasauqua (6,469) and Fountain Hill (4,798). An assistant asked about a service in one of them draws on local detail for that town, not for the whole county.
Outside any named place (a city, town or census-designated place) live 193,569 of Lehigh County's residents (51%), and their questions often skip the town name entirely and ask for something "near me" instead.
Your competition
Read each row across: Lehigh County's established locations in a category, the crowding bar against the median county (the dark tick is 1.0x), the change in all locations since 2017, and the count of large employers.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. How we calculate this
Real estate agents and brokers are the most contested category in Lehigh County: 23 established locations, 2.9 times the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole up 17.4% since 2017. A person asking an assistant which agent to list with has the most names to sort through here. Denser than usual as well: physicians offices (171 established locations, 2.1x) and dentists (103 established locations, 1.3x). Room exists in plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors, where 40 established locations come to just 0.8x a typical county.
Residential remodelers added the most new competition, 25.5% more locations of all sizes than in 2017 (123 now). The one category moving backward is physicians offices, down 37.8% to 235 locations. Physicians offices account for the most large employers, with 77 locations at 20 or more employees.
Remember what a count can and cannot say. It tells you how many established businesses are in each category. It says nothing about AI mentions, search volume or timing, and nobody can promise a mention in an AI answer.
Where demand is heading
Bars show new housing units approved by building permits. Data: Building Permits Survey, county annual files, and a like-for-like year-to-date comparison. Approved units may not be built yet.
From a high of 1,062 units in 2024, approvals in Lehigh County dropped to 619 in 2025, about 42% less, and the 2025 rate of 16.4 per 10,000 residents is below 69% of counties. The 2026 year-to-date count is 448 units to 398 last year, +12.6%.
The construction-linked categories with the most established competitors in Lehigh County are real estate agents and brokers (2.9x typical) and residential remodelers (1.3x typical). New households arrive without providers they trust, and a business whose details already match across the places AI engines read is easier for them to find described.

Where people live
Population by place, from the Census Bureau's latest estimates. Local questions usually name a town, so each of these is a separate context, and work on answer engine optimization (AEO) in Lehigh County can be written for any of them.
| Community | Percent of all county residents | People (2023 estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Allentown | 33% | 124,880 |
| Bethlehem (part) | 5% | 19,951 |

| Catasauqua | 2% | 6,469 |
| Fountain Hill | 1% | 4,798 |
| Slatington | 1% | 4,250 |
Figures are Census Bureau population estimates. A place can be a city, a town or a census-designated place, and a city shared with a neighboring county appears with just the Lehigh County portion.
Our process
We compare your address, name and phone details and your site information across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines look, so every source tells the same story.
We add schema markup on your key pages: FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema, so your business is described in a format machines read well.
We create plain-language, hyper-local content that responds to the questions customers put to assistants about your services in your service area.
Each month we run tests of your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then adjust the plan to the results. Reporting includes citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
The parts of GEO
Markup engines can read
Schema markup goes onto your most important pages: LocalBusiness, Review and FAQ, so AI engines can read who you are, where you work in Lehigh County and what you offer.
Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and more
Conflicting listings are found and fixed, so your details read the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and beyond.
Written for the questions people ask
Content is written in a conversational tone, aimed at the local questions customers actually ask, focused on Lehigh County and its neighboring areas.
Volume and sentiment
AI engines scan review volume and sentiment, so we help you earn and answer reviews on a steady schedule.
SEO underneath
A clean technical base lets search engines and AI engines read your pages without trouble.
ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews
Visibility is tested monthly in Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, with reports on local rankings, AI visibility, citations, knowledge panels and platform traffic.
GEO is delivered alongside SEO, Google Maps work and the website that comes with Gold and Platinum. Want leads sooner? We also manage Bing, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google ads.
Check the math
The plans are flat monthly fees, which makes the payback arithmetic simple: what one new customer is worth to you, your margin and your close rate give the customers a month a plan has to deliver.
Fees
GEO is not sold on its own: it is included in every Organic Growth plan below. Each plan is month to month, with no setup fee and no contract. Book a call with our CEO to compare plans.
Questions we hear
You cannot buy GEO by itself: it is included in every Organic Growth plan. Silver costs $1,495 a month, Gold $2,495 and Platinum $3,495, with a fully managed, custom-built website added on Gold and Platinum. No setup fee, no contract.
It would be dishonest to promise an AI mention, so we do not. The goal is accurate, consistent facts that match across each source an engine reads. Results improve over time as engines favor consistent information, and we give no schedule. You see monthly test results from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity.
GEO stands for generative engine optimization: preparing your online presence for AI engines such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Others use the term AEO, or answer engine optimization. They answer directly instead of listing links, drawing on structured data, business listings and trusted content. GEO is the next step beyond SEO and complements it; it does not replace it.
There is no contract and no setup fee, and every plan is flat-rate and month to month. We also work with one business per category in each city, so we will not set you up against a direct competitor of yours in Lehigh County.
According to the index, Lehigh County is more crowded than most counties: it scores 68.1, which is 281st out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 185th of our 400 markets. The busiest category is real estate agents and brokers, at 2.9x a typical county. The score describes the number of established competitors; what engines do with them is beyond what public data can show.
They are different things. GEO is unpaid work: helping engines find accurate information about your business. ChatGPT advertising is a separate, paid test: sponsored, labeled ads shown to some users on the Free and lower-priced plans, bought through a self-serve Ads Manager and targeted by country and context, not by keyword. Measurement is still maturing, and ads do not change the answers.
You do not have to. GEO starts with an audit of the details engines read, then schema markup on important pages and new local content. A rebuild is optional: Gold and Platinum come with a custom-built, fully managed website if you want one.
It helps most there. AI tools need consistent, verified data to recommend a business locally, so a name, address, phone number and set of hours that match across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the rest matter at every location. 10.3% of advice-led locations in Lehigh County have 20 or more employees.
Whichever you serve. Lehigh County has 9 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Catasauqua and Fountain Hill. Content under GEO is hyper-local, and RankGuarantee™ landing pages (25, 50 or 100 a month depending on the Organic Growth plan) give each service its own page in each place you cover.

Public Census Bureau data is the only source behind this page; one formula covers every county, so Lehigh County is judged by the same yardstick as anywhere else. We use no client data and publish no AI mention counts, traffic or rankings: the index is a count of businesses and nothing more.
