Snapshot
AI Answer Competition Index
78.9/ 100
Placed 52 among the 1,822 counties of at least 20,000 people, and 37 within our own 400-market set. More established businesses per resident push the score up. How we work it out
We built this index around eleven categories where someone is likely to ask an assistant who to call (law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical, auto repair). Each county of 20,000 or more residents gets a 0 to 100 score for how many established locations, with five or more employees, share its population. Salt Lake County scores 78.9, which is more crowded than most.
Beyond the score, Salt Lake County is an affluent county and a county made up of many sizeable towns. The measures below show where it stands against each other county.
Each percentile places Salt Lake County among the 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents, as the share of them with a lower value. Built from: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Communities
Population by place, from the Census Bureau's latest estimates. Local questions usually name a town, so each of these is a separate context, and work on answer engine optimization (AEO) in Salt Lake County can be written for any of them.
| Place | Portion of the county | Residents in 2023 (estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Salt Lake City | 18% | 209,593 |
| West Valley City | 11% | 134,470 |
| West Jordan | 10% | 114,908 |
| Sandy | 8% | 91,943 |
| South Jordan | 7% | 84,528 |
| Millcreek | 5% | 62,205 |

Local profile
Higher incomes ($94,013 median household income, above 91% of counties) change how people choose in Salt Lake County: they weigh reviews, credentials and detail, not just price. AI engines scan review volume and sentiment too, which is why reviews and structured data sit at the center of our GEO work.
The headline is not the only thing worth reading. Salt Lake County has 19 communities above 2,500 residents, 18 of them above 10,000, more than 98% of counties. 7.1% of the advice-led locations in Salt Lake County have 20 or more employees, more than in 90% of counties.
For anyone weighing GEO services for Salt Lake County businesses, affluent buyers do their research, so complete profiles and substantial local content earn their keep.
Size matters for context: 1,185,813 residents put Salt Lake County 39th among 3,143 U.S. counties, and the population has changed 0% since the 2020 Census. All industries together have 35,284 employer locations, or 29.8 per 1,000 people.
The larger places in Salt Lake County are Salt Lake City (209,593), West Valley City (134,470), West Jordan (114,908), Sandy (91,943) and South Jordan (84,528). Local questions tend to name a town, so a business serving several of them gains from content and consistent details for each. RankGuarantee™ landing pages, included in every Organic Growth plan, are how that content gets built at volume.
Who shares the answer
Each row is one of the eleven recommendation categories: established locations (five or more employees) in Salt Lake County, how that compares with the typical county, how the category as a whole has changed since 2017, and how many locations are large employers.
Each bar shows a category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county we rank; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change covers each employer location in the category, of any size. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. How we calculate this
Roofing contractors lead the field for crowding in Salt Lake County: 56 established locations, 3.0x a typical county, with the category as a whole up 24.3% since 2017. Real estate agents and brokers (71 established locations, 2.9x) and law offices (208 established locations, 2.4x) follow, also denser than a typical county. Auto repair shops are the least crowded category here at 0.9x typical (92 established locations), which leaves more room for a well-documented business to be noticed.
The fastest growth is in residential remodelers: locations of every size rose 42.5% since 2017, to 493, so new names keep appearing. The one category moving backward is auto repair shops, down 12.1% to 232 locations. Larger firms cluster in physicians offices: 106 locations have 20 or more employees.
Remember what a count can and cannot say. It tells you how many established businesses are in each category. It says nothing about AI mentions, search volume or timing, and nobody can promise a mention in an AI answer.
New construction
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. Source: Census Bureau Building Permits Survey, annual county files, with a same-months comparison for this year. Permits mark intent to build, not finished construction.
Permits peaked at 10,649 units in 2021 and came in at 7,167 in 2025, roughly 33% lower. Even so, 2025 equals 60.4 units for every 10,000 residents, which is above 79% of counties. The 2026 year-to-date count is 4,249 units to 4,086 last year, +4%.
Among businesses tied to building, roofing contractors (3.0x typical) and real estate agents and brokers (2.9x typical) are the most crowded in Salt Lake County. Permits show where new customers are coming from; GEO does not wait for them to arrive, and content for new homeowners is easier to publish before demand peaks.

What is in the work
Schema on your key pages
Key pages get FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema markup, so AI engines can read who you are, where you work in Salt Lake County and what you offer.
NAP across every listing
Your name, address and phone number are made to match across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines look.
Hyper-local and conversational
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people put to assistants about your services, focused on Salt Lake County and its neighboring areas.
What customers say
Engines look at how many reviews you have and how customers feel about you; we help you collect and respond to them consistently.
Crawlable, fast, clean
A clean technical base lets search engines and AI engines read your pages without trouble.
ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews
Each month we test your visibility across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT, and reporting covers knowledge panels, citations, AI visibility, platform traffic and local rankings.
None of this stands alone: it is part of Organic Growth, with local SEO and Google Maps work beside it and a managed website on Gold and Platinum. Want leads sooner? We also manage Google, Bing and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads.
How it works
We review your NAP details and your site information across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other sources AI engines look, so they all agree.
We install schema markup on your most important pages: FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema, so your business is described in a format machines read well.
We write conversational, hyper-local content that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services in your service area.
Every month we check your visibility across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, then adjust the plan to the results. The report covers AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
What it costs
GEO comes inside the Organic Growth plans, not as a separate purchase. Plans are billed month to month, and there is no setup fee to pay. Ask our CEO which plan fits.
Run your own numbers
The plans are flat monthly fees, which makes the payback arithmetic simple: what one new customer is worth to you, your margin and your close rate give the customers a month a plan has to deliver.
FAQ
The short version: GEO is bundled into Organic Growth, not sold alone. Silver is $1,495 a month, Gold is $2,495 and Platinum is $3,495. Gold and Platinum also bring a custom-built website we host and maintain. No setup fee and no contract on any of them.
Yes, and it frequently matters more with several sites, because AI tools need consistent, verified information to recommend a service locally. Our audit checks that each address reads the same across every source engines use. For reference, 7.1% of advice-led locations in Salt Lake County are larger employers.
No. GEO is the unpaid side: helping engines find accurate information about your business. ChatGPT ads are a separate paid test: labeled, sponsored ads that some users on the Free and lower-priced plans see, set up in a self-serve Ads Manager and aimed by country and context rather than keyword. Measurement is still maturing, and ads do not change the answers.
More than most. Salt Lake County comes in at 78.9 on our AI Answer Competition Index, placing 52nd among the 1,822 counties we rank, and 37th within our 400-market set. Roofing contractors are where the field is busiest, at 3.0 times the typical county. The index counts businesses and says nothing about AI behavior.
Think of SEO as winning a place in a list of links and GEO as making your details usable to engines that answer directly. The engines include Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT; the practice is also called AEO. The two share groundwork, so Organic Growth includes both.
That is not something anyone can guarantee. What we can do is the groundwork engines rely on: consistent details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and other listings, schema markup and local content. Because engines build trust in information gradually, any promised date would be a guess. Each month we check Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity and send you the results.
It means your address, name and phone number, and other details such as hours and services, read the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and everywhere else an AI engine might look. The first step in our process is an audit of exactly that, as mismatched details make it harder for an engine to describe you correctly.
GEO is described as the next evolution of SEO, and in our plans the two arrive together: technical SEO, local landing pages, reviews and the AI-focused work. The Organic Growth page has the details.
The three biggest of the eleven categories in Salt Lake County, by established locations, are dentists (408), physicians offices (305) and plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors (210). Compared with a typical county, the busiest are roofing contractors (3.0x) and real estate agents and brokers (2.9x).
