AI Answer Competition Index
73.7/ 100
Placed 143 among the 1,822 counties with 20,000 or more residents, and 99 within our own 400-market set. A higher number means a more crowded field of established competitors. How we work it out
The AI Answer Competition Index covers eleven kinds of business that people ask an assistant to recommend: law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical and auto repair. For each county of 20,000 or more residents it counts established locations, those with five or more employees, per 10,000 people. Cobb County scores 73.7, which is more crowded than most.
Cobb County has two traits worth noting: it is an affluent county, and it is a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations. Each measure below places it among all counties.
Each percentile places Cobb County among the 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents, as the share of them with a lower value. Inputs: Census Bureau population estimates, the 2017 and 2022 County Business Patterns, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
The AI answer picture
At $99,134, median household income in Cobb County sits above 93% of counties. Buyers who can afford to compare options usually do, and for a dentist, a remodeler or an attorney that comparison can include asking ChatGPT or reading a Google AI Overview. Accurate, detailed information is what gets a provider described well.
Two more details round out the picture. 6.6% of the advice-led locations in Cobb County have 20 or more employees, more than in 88% of counties. Cobb County has 6 communities above 2,500 residents, 5 of them above 10,000, more than 85% of counties.
When it comes to GEO services for Cobb County businesses, buyers who compare closely read reviews and detail, so depth matters more than speed.
Home to 776,743 people, Cobb County is the 85th largest of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its headcount has moved +1.4% since the 2020 Census. Employers operate 22,147 locations here across all industries, roughly 28.5 for every 1,000 residents.
Marietta (62,769), Smyrna (56,566), Kennesaw (34,683), Acworth (22,379) and Powder Springs (18,950) lead the list of places in Cobb County. Each is a separate local context, which is why GEO for a multi-town business is built place by place, with pages and data for every area it serves.
Outside any named place (a city, town or census-designated place) live 573,376 of Cobb County's residents (74%), and their questions often skip the town name entirely and ask for something "near me" instead.
Communities
The largest places in Cobb County by resident count. For answer engine optimization (AEO) in Cobb County, the work is place by place: each service you offer can have content for each town you serve.
| City or town | Portion of the county | People (2023 estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Marietta | 8% | 62,769 |
| Smyrna | 7% | 56,566 |
| Kennesaw | 4% | 34,683 |
| Acworth | 3% | 22,379 |
| Powder Springs | 2% | 18,950 |
| Austell (part) | 1% | 8,020 |
Figures are Census Bureau population estimates. Cities, towns and census-designated places all count as places, so a city split between counties is counted only where it lies in Cobb County.
Your competition
Read each row across: Cobb County's established locations in a category, the crowding bar against the median county (the dark tick is 1.0x), the change in all locations since 2017, and the count of large employers.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. See the method
The busiest category in Cobb County is real estate agents and brokers, with 42 established locations at 2.6x the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole up 40.7% since 2017. More comparable names means more weight on the details that tell them apart. The next most crowded categories are law offices (135 established locations, 2.4x) and roofing contractors (21 established locations, 1.7x). The lightest field belongs to plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors: 90 established locations, 0.9x the typical density, so an answer in that category has fewer names to weigh.
Residential remodelers added the most new competition, 46.8% more locations of all sizes than in 2017 (298 now). Auto repair shops contracted by 4.8% since 2017, to 179 locations. The biggest employers sit in physicians offices, where 91 locations have 20 or more employees.
A word of caution: this table counts businesses. It does not measure how frequently an assistant is asked about any category, which businesses it names, or how many people use one. A crowded category calls for careful preparation and a quiet one for early action, but neither is a forecast.
Demand signal
Bars show new housing units approved by building permits. From the Building Permits Survey (Census Bureau): annual county data plus matching January-to-August totals. An approval is not a completed home.
From a high of 3,247 units in 2021, approvals in Cobb County dropped to 1,844 in 2025, about 43% less, and the 2025 rate of 23.7 per 10,000 residents is below 56% of counties. Through the first eight months of 2026, 1,732 units were approved against 1,473 in the same months of 2025 (+17.6%).
The construction-linked categories with the most established competitors in Cobb County are real estate agents and brokers (2.6x typical) and roofing contractors (1.7x typical). Permits show where new customers are coming from; GEO does not wait for them to arrive, and content for new homeowners is easier to publish before demand peaks.

A comparable score means a comparable number of established competitors, not a comparable result.
Try your own numbers
GEO is part of the monthly Organic Growth plans, so the useful question is how many new customers a plan has to bring in to cover its cost. Customers from AI answers, search and Google Maps all count, and nobody can promise any of them.
The parts of GEO
Schema on your key pages
Schema markup goes onto your most important pages: LocalBusiness, FAQ and Review, so your business is described in a format machines handle well.
Name, address and phone
Your name, address and phone number are made to match across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines look.
Hyper-local and conversational
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people put to assistants about your services, focused on Cobb County and its neighboring areas.
Volume and sentiment
Engines look at how many reviews you have and how customers feel about you; we help you collect and respond to them consistently.
SEO underneath
A clean technical base lets search engines and AI engines read your pages without trouble.
Tested every month
Visibility is tested monthly in Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT, with reports on citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
GEO is delivered alongside SEO, Google Maps work and the website that comes with Gold and Platinum. If you need customers while this builds, our paid ads team manages Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google and Bing campaigns.
How it works
We check your NAP details and your site details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines look, so each source tells the same story.
We implement schema markup on your key pages: LocalBusiness, Review and FAQ markup, so engines can read who you are, where you work and what you offer.
We create conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people ask about your services and the places you serve.
Every month we check your visibility across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT, then adapt the work to what we find. The report covers AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
Plans
The three Organic Growth plans below each include GEO, and it cannot be bought alone. Plans are billed month to month, and there is no setup fee to pay. Talk to our CEO about the options.
FAQ
The fee is flat and billed monthly, and GEO is part of the Organic Growth plans rather than as a separate line item: $1,495 for Silver, $2,495 for Gold and $3,495 for Platinum. If you only want local landing pages, RankGuarantee™ is $495 a month alone and comes with every plan. Everything is month to month, with no setup fee and no contract.
GEO, short for generative engine optimization, is optimizing your online presence for AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Others use the term AEO, or answer engine optimization. These engines answer a question directly, pulling from structured data, business listings and trusted content. GEO is the next step beyond SEO and complements it; it does not replace it.
There is nothing to sign and no setup fee. Plans are flat-rate and month to month, and we accept one business per category in each city.
By our count, Cobb County is more crowded than most counties: it scores 73.7, which is 143rd out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 99th of our 400 markets. The busiest category is real estate agents and brokers, at 2.6x a typical county. The score describes the number of established competitors; what engines do with them is beyond what public data can show.
Not necessarily. The work begins by auditing your business information and adding structured data to the key pages you already have. A new site is available if you want one: Gold and Platinum include a custom-built, fully managed website, hosting and maintenance included.
No honest timeline exists, so we do not give one. It takes engines time to gather and validate information, and they favor what stays consistent, so results depend on how complete your data is, how crowded your category is (real estate agents and brokers run 2.6x a typical county in Cobb County) and what engines already hold. We monitor visibility monthly and adapt the work to what we find.
It would be dishonest to promise an AI mention, so we do not. The goal is accurate, consistent facts that match across each source an engine reads. Results improve over time as engines favor consistent information, and we give no schedule. Monthly testing across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT keeps you informed.
They are two separate things. Some ChatGPT users on the Free and lower-priced plans now see labeled, sponsored ads that advertisers buy in a self-serve Ads Manager, with targeting by country and context. The ads do not affect the answers, and measuring them is still maturing. GEO is the unpaid work of keeping your information accurate and easy to use.
They count. Engines read how many reviews a business has and how positive they are, which is why reviews and reputation work sit alongside schema markup (including Review schema) and consistent business details in our plans.
