AI Answer Competition Index
60.8/ 100
Currently ranked 476 among the 1,822 counties with 20,000 or more residents, and 278 within our own 400-market set. More established businesses per resident push the score up. The method behind the score
We built this index around eleven categories where someone is likely to ask an assistant who to call (law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical, auto repair). Every county of 20,000 or more residents gets a 0 to 100 score for how many established locations, with five or more employees, share its population. Yakima County scores 60.8, which is close to the middle of the pack.
Beyond the score, Yakima County is a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations and a county made up of many sizeable towns. Each measure below places it among all counties.
Each percentile places Yakima County among the 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents, as the share of them with a lower value. Drawn from: Census population estimates, the 2017 and 2022 County Business Patterns, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
What shapes AI visibility here
Yakima County has 46 larger locations (20 or more employees) among its advice-led businesses, 6.4% of the total and more than in 86% of counties. Firms that size tend to have budgets and several offices; independents competing with them gain by being just as consistent, with the same name, address and phone number everywhere AI engines look.
Two more details round out the picture. Yakima County has 10 communities above 2,500 residents, 3 of them above 10,000, more than 93% of counties. 39.2% of the advice-led locations in Yakima County have five or more employees, a higher share than in 66% of counties.
When it comes to GEO services for Yakima County businesses, larger firms can mean several locations, and consistent facts at every address are what let an independent keep up.
Home to 256,643 people, Yakima County is the 279th largest of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its headcount has moved 0% since the 2020 Census. Employers operate 4,978 locations here across all industries, roughly 19.4 for every 1,000 residents.
The larger places in Yakima County are Yakima (96,750), Sunnyside (16,264), Grandview (11,149), Toppenish (8,650) and Selah (8,571). Local questions tend to name a town, so a business serving several of them gains from content and consistent details for each. RankGuarantee™ landing pages, included in every Organic Growth plan, are how that content gets built at volume.
34% of the county, about 87,454 people, lives outside any named place, where "near me" and county-wide questions count for as much as a city name.
The field an answer chooses from
The eleven rows are the recommendation categories. Each shows established locations in Yakima County and sets them against the median county, so 2.0x would mean twice the typical number per resident.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Counts come from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022) and are no measure of AI mentions or search volume. See the method
The busiest category in Yakima County is law offices, with 32 established locations at 1.7x the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole down 11% since 2017. More comparable names means more weight on the details that tell them apart. The next most crowded categories are electrical contractors (34 established locations, 1.4x) and dentists (64 established locations, 1.2x). The lightest field belongs to insurance agencies: 14 established locations, 0.6x the typical density, so an answer in that category has fewer names to weigh.
The fastest growth is in residential remodelers: locations of every size rose 47.3% since 2017, to 109, so new names keep appearing. Physicians offices contracted by 34.8% since 2017, to 73 locations. For firm size, look at physicians offices: 15 locations employ 20 people or more.
A word of caution: this table counts businesses. It does not measure how frequently an assistant is asked about any category, which businesses it names, or how many people use one. A crowded category calls for careful preparation and a quiet one for early action, but neither is a forecast.
Demand signal
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. Data: Building Permits Survey, county annual files, and a like-for-like year-to-date comparison. An approval is not a completed home.
From a high of 1,103 units in 2021, approvals in Yakima County dropped to 696 in 2025, about 37% less, and the 2025 rate of 27.1 per 10,000 residents is below 51% of counties. Through the first eight months of 2026, 477 units were approved against 508 in the same months of 2025 (-6.1%).
Among businesses tied to building, roofing contractors (2.3x typical) and electrical contractors (1.4x typical) are the most crowded in Yakima County. Rising permits bring people who need a roofer or an electrician and have no one to ask, and falling permits shift questions toward repair and replacement. Either way, accurate local information is what GEO works on.

A similar score means a comparable number of established competitors, not a comparable result.
Where the customers are

The process
We compare your name, address and phone details and your site details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other listings AI engines look, so every source tells the same story.
We put schema markup on your key pages: FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review markup, so AI engines can read your details as structured facts.
We write local content in a conversational tone that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services in your service area.
Each month we check your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then change course based on what moves. The report covers AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
What GEO includes
Markup engines can read
Schema markup goes onto your most important pages: LocalBusiness, Review and FAQ, so your business is described in a format machines handle well.

Hyper-local and conversational
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people put to assistants about your services, focused on Yakima County and the towns around it.
Volume and sentiment
Review volume and sentiment both get read by AI engines, so reputation work is part of the plan.
Crawlable, fast, clean
A clean technical base lets search engines and AI engines read your pages without trouble.
Tested every month
Monthly tests across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews feed a report covering local rankings, AI visibility, citations, knowledge panels and platform traffic.
GEO sits next to our other work: local SEO, Google Maps optimization and, on the Gold and Platinum plans, a fully managed website. If you need customers while this builds, our paid ads team manages Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Bing and Google campaigns.
Try your own numbers
Whether GEO pays off for you depends on your own figures, not a market average. Enter what a customer is worth and the plan you are weighing to see how many new customers a month cover it.
What it costs
There is no separate price for GEO, since each of the three Organic Growth plans below includes it. None of the plans has a setup fee or a contract. Talk it through with our CEO.
Common questions
The fee is flat and billed monthly, and GEO is part of the Organic Growth plans rather than as a separate line item: $1,495 for Silver, $2,495 for Gold and $3,495 for Platinum. RankGuarantee™ local landing pages cost $495 a month on their own and are included in all three. Plans are month to month with no setup fee.
About average. Yakima County comes in at 60.8 on our AI Answer Competition Index, placing 476th among the 1,822 counties we rank, and 278th within our 400-market set. Law offices are where the field is most crowded, at 1.7 times the typical county. Remember that the index measures businesses, not AI behavior.
GEO stands for generative engine optimization: preparing your online presence for AI engines such as Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Others use the term AEO, or answer engine optimization. They answer directly instead of listing links, drawing on structured data, business listings and trusted content. GEO is the next step beyond SEO and complements it; it does not replace it.
No. The first steps are an audit, schema on your important pages and fresh local content. A new website is available but not necessary: if you want one, Gold and Platinum include a custom-built, fully managed website.
It would be dishonest to promise an AI mention, so we do not. The goal is accurate, consistent facts that match across every source an engine reads. As engines gather, validate and favor consistent information, results improve over time, though we cannot say how long that takes. Monthly testing across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews keeps you informed.
Whichever you serve. Yakima County has 10 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Yakima, Sunnyside, Grandview, Toppenish and Selah. GEO content is hyper-local, and RankGuarantee™ landing pages (25 a month on Silver, 50 on Gold and 100 on Platinum) give each service its own page in each place you cover.
No, they are separate. Some ChatGPT users on the Free and lower-priced plans now see labeled, sponsored ads that advertisers buy in a self-serve Ads Manager, with targeting by country and context. Measurement is still maturing, and the ads do not influence the answers. GEO is the unpaid work behind accurate answers about your business.
They are part of the picture. Engines read how many reviews a business has and how positive they are, so reviews and reputation management are included in our GEO work, alongside schema markup (including Review schema) and consistent business details.
We do not promise a timeframe, since engines decide how quickly they trust new or corrected information. The audit, schema and content work happen in a defined order, and then we test visibility across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity each month and adjust. A busy category like law offices in Yakima County is a reason to be thorough, not a prediction of speed.
