Snapshot
AI Answer Competition Index
80.7/ 100
Placed 30 among the 1,822 counties with 20,000 or more residents, and 22 within our own 400-market set. A higher score means more established businesses are sharing the same pool of AI answers. The method behind the score
Think of the index as a headcount of established competition, those with five or more employees, in eleven recommendation categories, for each 10,000 residents and compared across every county of 20,000 or more people. The categories are law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical and auto repair. Anchorage scores 80.7, which is among the busiest markets in the country.
Look past the headline number and two features of Anchorage emerge: it is an affluent city, and it is a city with many established recommendation-category businesses for its size. Each measure below places it among all counties.
A percentile here is the share of the 1,822 ranked counties (20,000 or more residents) that fall below Anchorage's figure. Drawn from: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Reading the market
Anchorage is an affluent market: median household income is $93,881, higher than in 91% of U.S. counties. Households with room in the budget tend to research before they hire, and some of that research now happens in conversation with an assistant, so complete profiles, strong reviews and in-depth local content are worth the effort.
Two more details round out the picture. Anchorage has 18.2 established advice-led businesses per 10,000 residents, more than 94% of counties.
What this means for GEO services for Anchorage businesses: affluent buyers do their research, so complete profiles and substantial local content earn their keep.
Size matters for context: 286,075 residents put Anchorage 249th among 3,143 U.S. counties, and the population has changed -1.8% since the 2020 Census. All industries together have 8,777 employer locations, or 30.7 per 1,000 people.
With 286,075 residents in one city, competition in Anchorage is decided neighborhood by neighborhood. Accurate listings, reviews and neighborhood-aware content carry more weight than one citywide page.
Who shares the answer
Every row is one of the eleven recommendation categories: established locations (five or more employees) in Anchorage, how that compares with the typical county, how the category as a whole has changed since 2017, and how many locations are large employers.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change covers every employer location in the category, of any size. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. Method
Real estate agents and brokers are the most contested category in Anchorage: 18 established locations, 3.0 times the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole up 31.2% since 2017. A person asking an assistant which agent to list with has the most names to sort through here. Denser than usual as well: law offices (62 established locations, 3.0x) and accounting and CPA firms (29 established locations, 1.9x).
Residential remodelers added the most new competition, 52.1% more locations of all sizes than in 2017 (146 now). Insurance agencies contracted by 17.8% since 2017, to 83 locations. The biggest employers sit in physicians offices, where 38 locations have 20 or more employees.
Remember what a count can and cannot say. It tells you how many established businesses are in each category. It says nothing about AI mentions, search volume or timing, and nobody can promise a mention in an AI answer.
Where demand is heading
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. Data: Building Permits Survey, county annual files, and a like-for-like year-to-date comparison. Approved units may not be built yet.
Permits peaked at 1,133 units in 2021 and came in at 278 in 2025, roughly 75% lower. Even so, 2025 equals 9.7 units for every 10,000 residents, which is below 82% of counties. Through the first eight months of 2026, 160 units were approved against 148 in the same months of 2025 (+8.1%).
The construction-linked categories with the most established competitors in Anchorage are real estate agents and brokers (3.0x typical) and roofing contractors (2.0x typical). New households arrive without providers they trust, and a business whose details already match across the places AI engines read is easier for them to find described.

One visible difference is firm size, with 7.9% of advice-led locations in Virginia Beach, VA at 20 or more employees against 5.7% in Anchorage. These are neighbors in competition only; they say nothing about what to expect from AI engines.
The parts of GEO
Schema on your key pages
Key pages get FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema markup, so AI engines can read who you are, where you work in Anchorage and what you offer.
NAP across every listing
Conflicting listings are found and fixed, so your details read the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and beyond.
Hyper-local and conversational
We publish conversational, hyper-local content that answers the questions people put to assistants about your services, focused on Anchorage first and foremost.
Steady, current reviews
AI engines scan review volume and sentiment, so we help you earn and answer reviews on a steady schedule.
SEO underneath
Technical SEO keeps your site readable by search engines and AI tools, and it is the foundation the rest of the work stands on.
AI visibility reporting
Each month we test your visibility across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, and reporting covers citations, AI visibility, knowledge panels, platform traffic and local rankings.
None of this stands alone: it is part of Organic Growth, with local SEO and Google Maps work beside it and a managed website on Gold and Platinum. If you need customers while this builds, our paid ads team manages Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Bing campaigns.
What happens, in order
We check your business address, name and phone number and your site details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other sources AI engines pull from, so every source tells the same story.
We put schema markup on the pages that matter most: Review, LocalBusiness and FAQ markup, so AI engines can read your details as structured facts.
We write plain-language, hyper-local content that speaks to what your customers actually ask about your services in your service area.
Every month we test your visibility across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT, then change course based on what moves. You see AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
Plans
GEO comes inside the Organic Growth plans, not as a separate purchase. None of the plans has a setup fee or a contract. Walk through the plans with our CEO.
Check the math
The plans are flat monthly fees, which makes the payback arithmetic simple: what one new customer is worth to you, your margin and your close rate give the customers a month a plan has to deliver.
Questions we hear
GEO is not a standalone product: every Organic Growth plan includes it. Silver costs $1,495 a month, Gold $2,495 and Platinum $3,495, with a fully managed, custom-built website added on Gold and Platinum. No setup fee, no contract.
It helps most there. To recommend a service locally, AI tools need consistent, verified data, so the name, address, phone number and hours should match on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and elsewhere for every address. 5.7% of advice-led locations in Anchorage have 20 or more employees.
These names mostly mean the same thing: GEO, AEO (answer engine optimization) and AI search optimization all describe preparing your business for engines that answer directly, such as Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. The engines rely on structured data, listings and trusted content, which is why GEO works with SEO and not against it.
You get schema markup (FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review), matching listings across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and others, conversational content written for local questions, reviews and reputation work, technical SEO, and monitoring across Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT. Reports cover knowledge panels, citations, AI visibility, platform traffic and local rankings.
It means your name, address, phone number and details like hours and services are identical on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and every other source an engine might read. Our process starts with an audit of precisely that, as mismatched details make it harder for an engine to describe you correctly.
GEO adds to SEO rather than taking its place, and Organic Growth includes both. Technical SEO is part of the GEO work itself, and the same accurate data, solid pages and reviews that help you in search give AI engines more to draw on. You can read about the Organic Growth plans that include both.
According to the index, Anchorage is more crowded than most counties: it scores 80.7, which is 30th out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 22nd of our 400 markets. The busiest category is real estate agents and brokers, at 3.0x a typical county. The score measures how many established competitors there are, and it cannot predict what an engine will say.
They are two separate things. Advertisers can buy labeled, sponsored ads in ChatGPT through a self-serve Ads Manager, and some Free and lower-priced plan users see them. The ads do not affect the answers, and measuring them is still maturing. GEO is the unpaid work behind accurate answers about your business.
No, and we do not promise one. No one controls what an AI engine says. GEO makes the information those engines can find about your business accurate, consistent and well structured, and results improve over time as engines gather, validate and favor consistent information. There is no timeframe to quote; we check Perplexity, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews every month and report what we see.
