Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsPhiladelphia County is losing residents, which is the backdrop for Philadelphia County GEO. GetPhound's GEO services prepare a business for AI search: consistent details across the listings engines read, structured data on key pages and local content that answers real questions, all inside our Organic Growth plans. The data below shows the market you would be working in.
Market at a glance
AI Answer Competition Index
42.5/ 100
Ranked 1,020 among the 1,822 counties of at least 20,000 people, and 390 within our own 400-market set. A higher score means more established businesses are sharing the same pool of AI answers. How the score is built
The AI Answer Competition Index covers eleven kinds of business that people ask an assistant to recommend: law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical and auto repair. For each county of 20,000 or more residents it counts established locations, those with five or more employees, per 10,000 people. Philadelphia County scores 42.5, which is less crowded than most.
Beyond the score, Philadelphia County is a county where the headcount is flat or falling and a county where larger firms, those with 20 or more employees, hold an outsized share of advice-led locations. Below, every measure is set against the full list of counties.
Percentiles compare Philadelphia County with all 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more residents: a percentile is the share of those counties with a lower value. Built from: Census population estimates, County Business Patterns for 2017 and 2022, income estimates from the Census Bureau and the Building Permits Survey.
What shapes AI visibility here
With 1,550,542 residents and a 3.3% drop since the 2020 Census, Philadelphia County is a market where each customer is harder to replace. Consistent listings, structured data and honest reviews help a business come across as dependable when an assistant is asked who to call.
Two other features of the Philadelphia County market matter here. 8.4% of the advice-led locations in Philadelphia County have 20 or more employees, more than in 95% of counties. Philadelphia County has 9 established advice-led businesses per 10,000 residents, fewer than 71% of counties.
For anyone weighing GEO services for Philadelphia County businesses, with the population falling, the goal is to hold your share of the households that remain.
Philadelphia County is spread out, with 1,550,542 residents and Philadelphia as its largest place. People ask about the nearest town or about what is nearby, so GEO has to describe the service area and not just one place name.
New construction
The permits shown are authorizations for new housing units. From the Building Permits Survey (Census Bureau): annual county data plus matching January-to-August totals. Approved units may not be built yet.
Permits peaked at 25,257 units in 2021 and came in at 3,366 in 2025, roughly 87% lower. Even so, 2025 equals 21.7 units for every 10,000 residents, which is below 60% of counties. Year to date (January through August), approvals stand at 3,178, compared with 1,792 a year ago, a change of +77.3%.
Among businesses tied to building, real estate agents and brokers (1.9x typical) and roofing contractors (0.9x typical) are the most crowded in Philadelphia County. Permits show where new customers are coming from; GEO does not wait for them to arrive, and content for new homeowners is easier to publish before demand peaks.
Who else could be named
The eleven rows are the recommendation categories. Each shows established locations in Philadelphia County and sets them against the median county, so 2.0x would mean twice the typical number per resident.
Bars give each category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county among those ranked; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change is measured on all locations in the category, not just established ones. Source: Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about AI behavior or search volume. How we calculate this
Law offices lead the field for crowding in Philadelphia County: 431 established locations, 3.8x a typical county, with the category as a whole down 6.9% since 2017. Real estate agents and brokers (60 established locations, 1.9x) follows, also denser than a typical county. Electrical contractors are the least crowded category here at 0.3x typical (41 established locations), which leaves more room for a well-documented business to be noticed.
The fastest growth is in real estate agents and brokers: locations of every size rose 44.3% since 2017, to 394, so new names keep appearing. Physicians offices shrank instead, losing 18.5% of their locations to land at 545. The biggest employers sit in law offices, where 144 locations have 20 or more employees.
These figures describe the competition, not AI behavior. No public data tells us how often people ask an assistant for a recommendation or how an engine picks among businesses, and we do not guess; the table shows how many established rivals share the answer space.

Brooklyn, NY has 4.4% of its advice-led locations at 20 or more employees against 8.4% in Philadelphia County. Treat the match as a read on the competition, not a promise about results.
What happens, in order
We go through your address, name and phone details and your site details across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other listings AI engines look, so everything matches.
We put schema markup on the pages that matter most: LocalBusiness schema, FAQ schema and Review schema, so AI engines can read your details as structured facts.
We create plain-language, hyper-local content that responds to the questions customers put to assistants about your services and the places you serve.
Each month we test your visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then adapt the work to what we find. The report covers AI visibility, citations, platform traffic, knowledge panels and local rankings.
What GEO includes
Schema on your key pages
We add schema markup to your key pages, including FAQ, LocalBusiness and Review schema, so an engine can read your business details as structured facts.
NAP across every listing
Your name, address and phone number are made to match across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other places AI engines look.
Hyper-local and conversational
Content is written in a conversational tone, aimed at the local questions customers actually ask, focused on Philadelphia County and the towns around it.
Steady, current reviews
Engines look at how many reviews you have and how customers feel about you; we help you collect and respond to them consistently.
SEO underneath
The groundwork is technical SEO: pages that load, can be crawled and carry the structure the rest of GEO adds to.
ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews
Each month we test your visibility across Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT, and reporting covers local rankings, AI visibility, citations, knowledge panels and platform traffic.
None of this stands alone: it is part of Organic Growth, with local SEO and Google Maps work beside it and a managed website on Gold and Platinum. Paid campaigns on Bing, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google are available separately for faster leads.
Try your own numbers
GEO is part of the monthly Organic Growth plans, so the useful question is how many new customers a plan has to bring in to cover its cost. Customers from AI answers, search and Google Maps all count, and nobody can promise any of them.
Monthly plans
There is no separate price for GEO, since each of the three Organic Growth plans below includes it. Plans are billed month to month, and there is no setup fee to pay. Talk to our CEO about the options.
FAQ
In short, GEO comes with Organic Growth and is not sold separately. It is part of Silver ($1,495 a month), Gold ($2,495) and Platinum ($3,495). A website, custom built and fully managed, comes with Gold and Platinum. Everything is month to month.
The names overlap: generative engine optimization, answer engine optimization and AI search optimization all describe getting your business ready for engines that give direct answers, like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. The engines rely on structured data, listings and trusted content, which is why GEO works with SEO and not against it.
Less than most. Philadelphia County comes in at 42.5 on our AI Answer Competition Index, ranking 1020th among the 1,822 counties we rank, and 390th within our 400-market set. Law offices lead the field for crowding, at 3.8 times the typical county. The index counts businesses and says nothing about AI behavior.
We cannot, and neither can anyone else. What we can do is the groundwork engines rely on: matching details on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other listings, schema markup and local content. Because engines build trust in information gradually, any promised date would be a guess. Each month we test visibility across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity and report what we see.
There is nothing to sign and no setup fee. Pricing is flat and month to month, and we accept one business per category in each city.
Your address, name and phone number, plus details such as hours and services, should be the same on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and anywhere else an engine looks. That is what the audit at the start of our process checks, as mismatched details make it harder for an engine to describe you correctly.
The two work together: GEO does not replace SEO, and Organic Growth delivers both. The GEO work includes technical SEO, and the same accurate data, solid pages and reviews that help you in search give AI engines more to draw on. You can read about the Organic Growth plans that include both.
The index looks at eleven kinds of business people ask for recommendations about. By established locations, Philadelphia County leads with law offices (431), physicians offices (293) and dentists (209), and relative to a typical county the busiest are law offices (3.8x) and real estate agents and brokers (1.9x).
They are two separate things. Advertisers can buy labeled, sponsored ads in ChatGPT through a self-serve Ads Manager, and some Free and lower-priced plan users see them. The ads do not affect the answers, and measuring them is still maturing. GEO is the unpaid work of keeping your information accurate and easy to use.
