Market snapshot
AI Answer Competition Index
45.0/ 100
Ranked 941 among the 1,822 counties above 20,000 residents, and 381 within our own 400-market set. More established businesses per resident push the score up. How the score is built
We built this index around eleven categories where someone is likely to ask an assistant who to call (law, dental, medical, real estate, insurance, accounting, remodeling, plumbing and HVAC, roofing, electrical, auto repair). Each county of 20,000 or more residents gets a 0 to 100 score for how many established locations, with five or more employees, share its population. Brooklyn scores 45.0, which is close to the middle of the pack.
Brooklyn has two traits worth noting: it is a borough where the headcount is flat or falling, and it is a borough where advice-led businesses are mostly tiny, with fewer than five employees. The measures below show where it stands against each other county.
A percentile here is the share of the 1,822 ranked counties (20,000 or more residents) that fall below Brooklyn's figure. Inputs: Census population estimates, the 2017 and 2022 County Business Patterns, SAIPE income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Reading the market
A shrinking population (-6.4% since the 2020 Census, 2,561,225 residents) means Brooklyn cannot count on newcomers to refill the customer base. Staying visible and accurate wherever people ask, including AI assistants, is how an established business holds on to its share.
Two more details round out the picture. Only 29.9% of the advice-led locations in Brooklyn have five or more employees, a lower share than in 82% of counties. Median household income in Brooklyn is $76,353, above 73% of counties.
When it comes to GEO in Brooklyn, a shrinking market makes each customer count, and being described correctly is part of keeping them.
Brooklyn is dense, and questions are often about a neighborhood or about what is nearby as much as about the city. GEO here comes down to precise service-area data, consistent listings and content for the specific services you offer.
Housing demand
Each bar counts housing units approved for construction. Data: Building Permits Survey, county annual files, and a like-for-like year-to-date comparison. Permits mark intent to build, not finished construction.
From a high of 15,076 units in 2023, approvals in Brooklyn dropped to 6,844 in 2025, about 55% less, and the 2025 rate of 26.7 per 10,000 residents is below 52% of counties. Through the first eight months of 2026, 6,183 units were approved against 4,013 in the same months of 2025 (+54.1%).
Among businesses tied to building, residential remodelers (1.6x typical) and real estate agents and brokers (1.4x typical) are the most crowded in Brooklyn. Permits show where new customers are coming from; GEO does not wait for them to arrive, and content for new homeowners is easier to publish before demand peaks.
Who else could be named
Each row is one of the eleven recommendation categories: established locations (five or more employees) in Brooklyn, how that compares with the typical county, how the category as a whole has changed since 2017, and how many locations are large employers.
Each bar shows a category's established locations (five or more employees) per 10,000 residents as a multiple of the middle county we rank; the dark tick is 1.0x. Change covers every employer location in the category, of any size. Counts come from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022) and are no measure of AI mentions or search volume. Method
The busiest category in Brooklyn is residential remodelers, with 229 established locations at 1.6x the density of a typical county, with the category as a whole up 20.5% since 2017. More comparable names means more weight on the details that tell them apart. The next most crowded categories are real estate agents and brokers (73 established locations, 1.4x) and physicians offices (654 established locations, 1.2x). The lightest field belongs to roofing contractors: 15 established locations, 0.4x the typical density, so an answer in that category has fewer names to weigh.
Residential remodelers are also the fastest-growing category, up 20.5% since 2017, so the field is still filling in. Physicians offices contracted by 15.6% since 2017, to 1,463 locations. Physicians offices account for the most large employers, with 114 locations at 20 or more employees.
Remember what a count can and cannot say. It tells you how many established businesses are in each category. It says nothing about AI mentions, search volume or timing, and nobody can promise a mention in an AI answer.

The process
We review your NAP details and your site information across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and the other sources AI engines look, so everything matches.
We add schema markup on the pages that matter most: Review, LocalBusiness and FAQ schema, so your business is described in a format machines read well.
We produce conversational, hyper-local content that responds to the questions customers put to assistants about what you do and where you do it.
Every month we check your visibility across Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT, then adjust the plan to the results. Reporting includes knowledge panels, citations, AI visibility, platform traffic and local rankings.
What you get
Schema on your key pages
Key pages get Review, LocalBusiness and FAQ schema markup, so an engine can read your business details as structured facts.
NAP across every listing
We make your address, name and phone details agree on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and every other listing engines read.
Answers, not keywords
Content is written in a conversational tone, aimed at the local questions customers actually ask, focused on Brooklyn and its neighboring areas.
Volume and sentiment
Review volume and sentiment both get read by AI engines, so reputation work is part of the plan.
SEO underneath
The groundwork is technical SEO: pages that load, can be crawled and carry the structure the rest of GEO adds to.
Tested every month
Monthly tests across AI Overviews, Perplexity and ChatGPT feed a report covering local rankings, AI visibility, citations, knowledge panels and platform traffic.
None of this stands alone: it is part of Organic Growth, with local SEO and Google Maps work beside it and a managed website on Gold and Platinum. Want leads sooner? We also manage Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Bing ads.
Check the math
Whether GEO pays off for you depends on your own figures, not a market average. Enter what a customer is worth and the plan you are weighing to see how many new customers a month cover it.
Monthly plans
The three Organic Growth plans below each include GEO, and it cannot be bought alone. Plans are billed month to month, and there is no setup fee to pay. Book a call with our CEO to compare plans.
Questions we hear
You pay a flat monthly fee, and GEO comes inside the Organic Growth plans rather than being priced on its own: $1,495 for Silver, $2,495 for Gold and $3,495 for Platinum. If you only want local landing pages, RankGuarantee™ is $495 a month alone and comes with every plan. Everything is month to month, with no setup fee and no contract.
We do not promise AI mentions, since nobody controls them. We aim for accurate, consistent information that matches wherever an engine looks. As engines gather, validate and favor consistent information, results improve over time, though we cannot say how long that takes. You see monthly test results from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.
It means your name, address, phone number and details like hours and services are identical on Google, Apple Maps, Yelp and every other source an engine might read. The first step in our process is an audit of exactly that, since conflicting details make it harder for engines to describe you accurately.
People describe GEO as the next evolution of SEO, which is why we deliver the two together: the AI-focused work alongside technical SEO, landing pages and reviews. The Organic Growth page has the details.
Across the eleven recommendation categories, the largest by established locations in Brooklyn are physicians offices (654), dentists (376) and plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors (296). Next to a typical county, the busiest are residential remodelers (1.6x) and real estate agents and brokers (1.4x).
Reviews are read as part of the picture. Engines read review volume and sentiment, which is why reviews and reputation are part of what we do, plus LocalBusiness, FAQ and Review schema. We cannot promise a mention; a healthy, current review profile simply gives engines more information.
Generative engine optimization (GEO) means optimizing your online presence for AI engines like Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Others use the term AEO, or answer engine optimization. They answer directly instead of listing links, drawing on structured data, business listings and trusted content. It is described as the next evolution of SEO and complements it rather than replacing it.
No. GEO is the unpaid side: helping engines find accurate information about your business. ChatGPT advertising is a separate, paid test: sponsored, labeled ads shown to some users on the Free and lower-priced plans, bought through a self-serve Ads Manager and targeted by country and context, not by keyword. Measurement is still maturing, and ads do not change the answers.
By our count, Brooklyn sits close to the middle of the pack: it scores 45.0, which is 941st out of 1,822 counties of 20,000 or more people and 381st of our 400 markets. The busiest category is residential remodelers, at 1.6x a typical county. The score describes the number of established competitors; what engines do with them is beyond what public data can show.
